Alexandrite is one of the birthstones for the month of June. Alexandrite is a semi-precious gemstone that was first discovered in Russia in 1830. Alexandrite is known as a magical stone because it has colour changing properties. Alexandrite will be a bluish/green in sunlight and a reddish/purple in incandescent lighting. Alexandrite is truly a wonderful stone because of its ability to show 2 phenomena in one stone, colour change and a cat’s eye.

There are 3 types different classifications of Alexandrite.
-True Alexandrite which originates from Russia
-Reconstituted Alexandrite which is a near replica of true Alexandrite
-Crysoberyl which is Alexandrite from another location for example, Brazil or Nigeria

A reconstituted Alexandrite is made from the original minerals scrap and dust as well as damaged gemstones or gemstones that are too small to be sold. The reason these stones are reconstituted is because it allows a near replica of the original gemstone using the original material from Russia.
